The Cowshed was opened in 2009 by Adam Denton, who sought to create a restaurant in his hometown of Bristol that offered an informal setting with an emphasis on serving quality, local produce.

An idea that clearly resonated with others in the South West, 2013 saw the expansion of the original Whiteladies Road restaurant into the neighbouring former Picture House building, offering the same experience in a new setting.

From the outset, the idea of "simple things, done well" has been used throughout the restaurants, both in creating the menus and in renovating the character-rich buildings to create a welcoming and relaxing dining experience for small, intimate groups of family and friends.

Echoing the ethos of Ruby & White, The Cowshed is passionate about the quality of their ingredients and work exclusively with trusted grocers, breeders and producers that share those values. The ongoing commitment to sourcing the best possible produce, while supporting West Country farmers and producers, is vital to the restaurant.

Over the years they've developed close relationships with a wealth of local producers and skilled merchants, drawing upon their expertise to develop seasonal menus based on redefining traditional British dishes.
